Feed Dialog - Facebook Developers

Feed Dialog

Overview

The Feed Dialog prompts the user to publish an individual story to a profile's feed. This does not require any extended permissions.
Your application can also publish directly to a profile's feed without user interaction, use the corresponding Graph API call.
Now you can start Publishing your story, and post it to your wall. Write something about Dialog.

Getting Started

Using Facebook on your Website allows you to create a more personalized, social experience using Social Plugins such as the Like Button and simplify your registration and sign-in process using Login Button and Registration Plugin
Facebook Platform makes iOS (iPhone & iPad), Android and Mobile Web apps social. Use Facebook Login to access the user's social graph (without yet another username/password) and create a personalized experience.
Building an app on Facebook gives you the opportunity to deeply integrate into our core user experience. Use the native functionality of Facebook such as Requests and Bookmarks to create an ideal social space for your users.

Core Concepts

Social Design
The Social Design Guidelines helps you understand why you should build great social experiences as well as how to use Facebook Platform effectively to create them.
Social Plugins
Social Plugins enable you to provide engaging social experiences to your users with just a line of HTML without the need for the viewer to have signed into your site.
Open Graph protocol
The Open Graph protocol enables you to integrate your pages into the social graph. These pages gain the functionality of other graph objects including profile links and stream updates.
Social Channels
Facebook Platform lets you integrate with social channels such as News Feed and Requests to help you drive growth and engagement with your app, site or content.
Authentication
Facebook authentication enables your app to interact with the Graph API on behalf of Facebook users and provides a powerful auth mechanism across Web, mobile and desktop apps.
Graph API
The Graph API is the core of Facebook Platform, enabling you to read and write data to Facebook. It provides a simple and consistent view of the social graph.

Advanced Topics

Dialogs
Dialogs provide a simple, consistent interface to display dialogs to users. Dialogs do not require special user permissions because they require user interaction.
FQL
Facebook Query Language, or FQL, enables you to use a SQL-style interface to query the data exposed by the Graph API.
Internationalization API
Take advantage of our community Translations framework, which has helped Facebook be available in over 70 languages, to translate your app or website.
Payments
Facebook Payments is a payment system that offers a safe, easy and fast way to pay for digital and virtual goods in games and apps across Facebook.
Ads API
The Facebook Ads API lets you create and manage your own ads on Facebook programmatically, without using the Facebook Advertising Manager tool.
Chat API
You can integrate Facebook Chat into your Web-based, desktop, or mobile instant messaging products. Your instant messaging client connects to Facebook Chat via the Jabber/XMPP service.
Legacy APIs
REST APIFBML, and the old Javascript API are legacy APIs that we are in the process of deprecating. Please use Graph APIJavaScript SDK and Social Plugins instead.

SDK & Tools

JavaScript SDK

What are the Harmful Chemicals in Household Products?

Traditional household products are full of harmful chemicals. By now, you’ve likely seen the new green products in supermarkets. The problem, though, is that some of these new household products simply contain different harmful chemicals like the old ones. Learning to recognize the harmful chemicals in household products is key in choosing the safest products for your home.

Ammonia is often used in household products, and it can be terrible for your health. This chemical causes lung damage when inhaled, and it can also damage the eyes and skin. Chlorine is another common chemical in household products. It’s used to break up dirt and disinfect surfaces, yet it’s very harmful. It’s a known carcinogen, and can be lethal if ingested.

Interestingly enough, dish-washing detergents are some of the most harmful household products out there. The same products that you use to clean your dishes are the number one cause of poisoning in the household.

Phenol is a product often used in air fresheners and scented household products. This chemical can cause major skin damage in large doses, but it’s even harmful in smaller quantities, too. Formaldehyde is often used in scented products, as well. It’s also a known carcinogen, and you would do well to totally avoid it in the household products you use.

Many chemicals in household products aren’t tested at all. It’s best if you avoid them by using all natural green cleaning products whenever possible.

The Clapper - Worthwhile Product or Nostalgic Throwback?

If you grew up watching a lot of television in the late eighties and early nineties, you will have definitely heard of the Clapper.  In fact, if you are like many, you may have even spent a better part of that time period walking around with their theme song stuck in your head:  “Clap on, Clap Off, the Clapper!”

There was no doubt that the product was unique and the jingle catchy, but is the Clapper really a worthwhile product?

On the surface, the Clapper is a fairly simple device.  You plug it into the wall and attach your lamp, then when you clap your hands, you can turn your lamp on or off.   It's a great device for those without a light switch at the door and is a lifesaver for people with disabilities.  You can get it online through the company's website, or shop for it at many department stores.  Does the product live up to its reputation though, or is The Clapper destined for the dustbin after a few uses like so many other television products?

The Clapper has been around for almost two decades, which says something about the product.  While some complain that it is too sensitive and many people have learned the hard way that it needs to be plugged into a grounded outlet, there is no denying that for some people, it is a true convenience.

If you cannot turn your lights on and off with ease, The Clapper really can make a true difference for you.  It isn’t for everyone, but for enough people it's worth the buy.

3 Car Repairs You Should Never Try to Do on Your Own

If you know your way around a basic tool set, there are a number of simple repairs that you can do on your car.  You can take care of all of the easy fixes on your own, such as changing the oil and replacing the wiper blades.

However, some jobs are simply downright dangerous for the novice auto mechanic to attempt on his or her own.  The following are the top three repair jobs that you should never try at home.

Replace Your Brakes

First, it is not advised that you replace your brakes at home.  Even if you think you know how to replace the brakes from reading materials online or in a manual, it is a delicate and dangerous job and requires extensive testing before you can take your car back out on the road.  If you don't install them correctly, you stand a good chance of having your brakes fail on you in a line of traffic or (worse) on the freeway, which can cause an accident or pile-up.  You will want to head to the professionals for this job.

Change Your Transmission

Second, changing out the transmission in cars can be problematic.  In many cases, you are going to have to lift the engine block out of the car to get at the transmission.  This is a job for professionals who have the right tools to do it.  If you must do this at home, enlist the help of at least one extra friend.  Engine blocks have been known to fall during this advanced repair, and you don't want to be alone in the garage if the engine falls on you!

Fix the AC

Third, the air conditioning can be dangerous if you don't repair it correctly.  Not only is the repair difficult, but also hooking it up wrong can cause some serious problems if poisonous refrigeration fumes escape or are routed into the interior of the car, and can even cause your engine to overheat or catch fire in some instances.

Remember: if in doubt - go to the auto repair shop or call the repairman out.
