10 Tips for Managing your Social Media Platform

1. Is it about followers and fans?

Some people may say that a business will be successful if the number of followers and fans are huge and increasing.  Customers won’t follow your Twitter account or recommend your company’s Facebook account to their friends if your content is boring.

Always try creating compelling reasons for your audience to stay in tuned and always find a way to connect with fans and followers.  If you do that and it’s working, then you’re on the right track.  Remember that if a company’ social media profile isn’t helpful and irrelevant with what it provides, then it is bound to fail.

2. Separate products from each other

It’s better to separate products if all of them are being featured in just one website.  Create a Facebook and Twitter account for each brand.  Let’s assume you do have 3 types of cleaning materials:  one for the floor, another is for the dishes, and the third for cleaning glasses.  All your products could be in just one website; but to know the true impact of how your customers like it or not, is to divide each product into separate individual social media accounts.

3. Create a memorable community

Global companies are doing this in an attempt to grow their community.  It depends from one company to another which social media channel it will use.  Here are some few tips that may help you to start your own online community.

- Start a LinkedIn group for professionals who might be interested in what you provide;

- Use Google+ to impact your Google’s rank in search engines;

- Use creative photos and videos as well in your posts; and,

- Optimize your content for mobile readers.

4. Start Big

It’s an old and well known strategy which is still effective until now.  Before starting on a new platform or testing a new environment to see if it’s going to work for your business, make sure you really do have something that really matters to provide.

When promoting for yourself and attempting to drive lots of audience, make sure that your content is something people are looking and will benefit them in some way or another.

For example, if you have a blog which has lots of articles, don’t promote until you write something that will really attract visitors.  Once you have such content, then you may start spreading the word.

5. Go with the flow

When social media websites started, many companies were saying that it isn’t a great channel to use for promotion and marketing.  However, in a span of only a few years, almost all kinds of businesses – from start-ups to multinational organizations – have a presence on different types of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and many others.

The key to success for social media is providing a good content – it’s a well-known strategy and it applies to almost everything – to provide quality content. Providing high quality content is also as good as providing original content online.

Not everyone feel they can or have the time to do the following steps.  Nevertheless, these steps will help lead you to the right track in the road of expertise:

- Learn to be quotable for meaningful things;

- Create PowerPoint presentations or create videos;

- Review a product, movie, book or website;

- Arrange an interview for professionals; and

- Always keep it simple.  For blogs, 150-300 words are enough; for videos, a 30 seconds to 3 minutes duration is great enough to deliver a certain message.

In addition, having an original content will make large websites and professionals to share your content more than providing a rephrased or copied content from another website.

7. The power of content

One of the responsibilities of a social media manager is to take care of maintaining the number of presence and removing all inappropriate comments all day long, in addition to listing and responding to the community.

It is a great job to keep those content clean but remember that the community should have fresh supply of good content on an on-going basis. That’s when you need to focus on targeted content and remarkable shares based on your audiences’ needs and interests.

Such content should not only be made remarkable but easily sharable as well so that your community may share them with their friends to expand your brand.

8. Sense of humor is great but be careful

Using some humor in social media activities really works.  It’s a great way to get people to engage with you but it could also give you the opposite. Comedy is a great tool to use but obviously, don’t expect to please everyone.

 9. Make a flexible content strategy

If you created a content strategy plan for the next three months, and the reports show that you’re doing well, don’t think that you’re doing great because your community may be attracted to something that was released yesterday.  Naturally, they’ll be moving towards it. This is when you need to rethink about your strategy.

The more your brand identity becomes popular on social media platforms, the more people will start asking questions about what you provide so don’t just stop at providing your updates and ignoring your community.
